Creamy Raw Hot Chocolate


There's nothing quite like a nice mug of hot chocolate on a cold evening and we think you'll find making your own is so much better than buying it.

For this recipe, we used our own home made oat milk, but you could use any milk you like, such as hemp or almond milk. One of the nice things of using oat milk is that is smells like chocolate ReadyBrek from when we were kids!

The keys to this recipe are to not heat the milk too much as you don't want to destroy nutrients and to make sure you give it all a good mix or blend to get it creamy.

  • 2 mugs oat milk (or milk of your choice, preferably not dairy)
  • 2 tbsp raw cacao powder
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla powder
  • Pinch of cinnamon
  • 3 tbsp coconut palm sugar (adjust amount to suit you)


  1. Measure out 2 mugs of oat milk, add to a saucepan and slowly warm (do not bring to the boil)
  2. Add the cacao powder, vanilla and coconut palm sugar
  3. Mix  together using a hand blender or whisk to get it nice and frothy
  4. Taste it and add more coconut palm sugar if it's not sweet enough for you

We used some of Paula's homemade oat milk, which for her first try was pretty darn good. As she hadn't soaked the oats this turned out nice a creamy and fairly thick. That might put some people off, but we thought it was great and added to the luxuriousness of it all.


To add even more luxuriousness to your hot chocolate, ad a teaspoon of virgin coconut oil, or raw cacao butter and let it melt slowly in.
