Let us explain...
The long n short of it is, we need more us time to fully recharge, so are planning to have all of August off this year.
As you can imagine a scary prospect when it's mainly just the 2 of us!
Not something we'd ever have expected to by writing.
It's scary, but feels very needed and so also feels kinda exciting.
The deeper story is, since we started our raw chocolate adventure in 2010, its been a rollercoaster of a ride. With many highs and lows. All those stories of running your own small business are true, and oh-so-off-the-mark. It's so much more!
In that time we've had 2 weeks off most Christmas/New Year and maybe another week every now and then. Our big saving grace has been weekends in beautiful places in our campervan.
We can't remember the last time we had 2 full weeks off in the summer, certainly before we started Elements for Life. The thought of having 4, 5 or 6 weeks holiday a year had long gone out the window.
It's not all bad, of course, as we're our owns bosses, get to make the decisions, choose what we want to do and have built a workplace to our spec. Woolley Wonkaland is like a second home, it's comfortable and cosy and generally relaxed.
When the pandemic hit things went mental for online shopping and we we've been busier than we'd ever been. Which is great for the long needed financial boost it gave us.
Though the flip side is lockdown passed us by and the enforced slow down that so many experienced. Our lives barely changed, other than getting busier and having to deal with more stock challenges.
Our refuge of getting away in our camper van didn't happen much last year either due to lockdowns.
The strangeness of the past 16 months has affected us all, probably more than we realise or acknowledge!
And so here we are in the summer of 2021, making preparations for the busy winter period that we affectionately call the silly season.
From September onwards its only going to get busier again through to next year.
We both reflected the other night on this and the idea of taking August off came to us. With some gentle encouragement from some dear friends.
It'll be a chance to disconnect, recharge, have loads of fun and get away lots.
That's the dream....
The fear is losing sales, losing website traffic, losing momentum for our social media, etc, etc is there nagging away in the background.
And quite frankly, those voices of doubt can go do one!
We need this.
By doing this we regain our sanity, gain some perspective and can come back renewed and refreshed.
Much love,
Paula & Dan
You've probably noticed that the Royal Mail workers have been carrying out strike action and more dates are set for the coming months. We figured it prudent to let you know sooner rather than later what we know and how our service to you is likely to be affected.
