What is Shiatsu?
Shiatsu is a Japanese therapy based on the ancient wisdom of traditional Chinese medicine, western anatomy and physiology. Shiatsu literally means “finger pressure”. This is similar to acupuncture but without the use of needles.
The body has numerous energy lines, known as meridians, through which flows the bodies energy, known as Ki or Chi. The meridians can be affected by stress, overwork, emotional traumas and illness, which can cause blockages. A shiatsu session consists of gentle stretches, palm work and finger pressure, with the aim of releasing or tonifying the body’s ki. The body then has the power to balance and heal itself, a power we all have within ourselves.
Shiatsu is a holistic therapy, which means it benefits the body, mind and spirit.
