Holistic techniques
Paula combines a range of advanced techniques into all her sessions, particularly her Combination Massage for Women, as detailed here.
Reflexology
This ancient art of applying pressure to specific regions on the foot to affect the corresponding area of the body has been around for thousands of years. In 1913 an ear, nose and throat consultant called Dr William Fitzgerald introduced zone therapy which is now called Reflexology.
Reflexologists regard the feet as mirroring the body's health and well being. The body can be divided into ten longitudinal zones or pathways through which energy or ‘chi’ flows. When this energy flow is blocked by congestion, a disorder or disease may occur in the body. When there are imbalances in the body, crystalline deposits can accumulate on the matching reflex points on the feet, making them feel tender to the touch.
A reflexologist uses massage and thumb and finger pressure techniques, to unblock stagnant energy.
Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy involves using pure essential oils, derived from plants. In an aromatherapy massage, a blend will be made specifically for the individual according to their skin type, ailments and preferences. The benefits of massage are thereby combined with the healing effects of the essential oils which are absorbed into the bloodstream through inhalation and absorption through the skin.
Besides the physical effects, aromatherapy also has a subtle effect on the mind body and spirit. Specific oils are used to give certain effects.
Indian Head Massage
Indian Head Massage is a safe, simple, non-invasive therapy concentrating on treatment of the upper back, neck, shoulders, arms, head, ears and face. It can release muscle tension, aches, pains, and improves scalp and hair condition, as well as being an excellent all round stress relieving session, as it focuses on the upper body, where a lot of tension can accumulate. Indian head massage is preformed through the clothes.
Reiki
Reiki is a Japanese word - pronounced "RAY-KEY" - and is defined as Universal Life Giving Energy. It can be used for all purposes, conditions and situations. It is used by people from all faiths, philosophies and beliefs to transmit healing energy to a recipient by the laying on of hands on specific areas, using special hand positions. Warmth and heat radiate from the reiki practitioners hands. Reiki can be a deeply relaxing experience.
Swedish massage
The focus of Swedish massage is general relaxation, stimulation of circulation, enhancing muscle tone and it is also therapeutic in reducing muscle tightness.
Swedish massage employs five different movements:
- Long, gliding strokes
- Kneading of individual muscles
- Friction
- Hacking or tapping
- Vibration
Massage oil is used to facilitate making long, smooth strokes over the body. During a Swedish massage session, one part of the body is uncovered and massaged, while the remainder is covered with towels, then covered up before moving on to another part of the body.
Swedish massage feels great, is relaxing and invigorating. It affects the nerves, muscles, glands, and circulation, while promoting health and well being. It is great for stress.
